Planning your lonesome to face the outside world? A baby carrier for twins is your best option if you want to go anywhere and have two free hands when holding your twins (or to hang out at home, for that matter). Let us find out a best baby carrier for twins

Since many newborn twins are smaller than most, you may find it hard for the first few months to use a normal soft structured carrier like the Ergo – it’s a bit big for the small ones.

Wraps

You may want to consider using a wrap-style carrier for the first few months. The Boba Wrap, which is $10 cheaper than the Moby and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r, is our favourite, and it’s ideal for tandem wrapping.

Other of our favourites are Happy Baby wraps and Solly Baby wraps, offering a variety of unique and trendy patterns and colours.

You should check out YouTube for lots of videos (or just check out our favours below) to dress your twins in various wraps.

As stretchy and woven wraps work and act differently, make sure you use the right wrap style for the carrier.

Baby K’tan (pronounced Ka-TAHN)

The Baby K’tan is a simpler wrap to get on with the double loop style because you don’t need to know how to tie something. It is suitable for carrying together newborn twins (up to 10 lbs each). Remember that you (the wearer) are built to match the K’tan, not your baby. Carefully choose your size and realize it’s very stretchy.

* Note that Baby K’tan can’t “officially” recommend their carrier for twins because of the new CPSC guidelines, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done…

The carrier of the Nesting Days is special as you wear it around your tummy, like a shaper, which makes it very discreet, secure and completely hands-free. The carrier also offers much-needed tummy support after giving birth, which can be helpful in recovery from postpartum. Twin moms, particularly those who had c-sections, love the carrier.

Nesting Days in San Francisco is ‘ made-to-order. ‘ Instant delivery is $98. Pre-orders shipping is $88 in 4 to 6 weeks. Sizing is based on the size of your dress before pregnancy.

This carrier is running a little small, so when you order it will size up. If your carrier arrives and you discover that this is the wrong size, within a few days, Nesting Days will deliver you the right size and a prepaid return envelope.

Also, the Nesting Days Carrier is not “officially” recommended for twins according to the CPSC guidelines. If you have questions, speak to your paediatrician.

Ring Slings

Another popular method of bringing together young twins is using double-ring slings (that’s right, two of them are needed). This way of carrying twins feels really normal – and it also looks natural (as opposed to some of the other “contraptions” that may look strange).

The double ring slings are not as secure as some of the structured carriers described below, so they are not suitable for vigorous activity; however, they are nice for bumbling around. They’re even great when the kids are awake (as opposed to sleeping babies).

Once, you can use a lightweight carrier made for twins until your twinnies bulk up a bit, but the double ring sling fits well for babies and comes in lots of beautiful prints. Go here to get some inspiration.

Some of our ring slings that are more favourite and more affordable include: Hip Baby Ring Sling, Beco Ring Sling, Maya Wrap, and WildBird; and the beautiful Sakura Bloom and Tula Ring Sling are on the pricier end. If you have many people buying presents from your registry, it would be nice to ask for any of these.

Structured Carriers for Twins

Twingaroo

The Twingaroo is a lightweight carrier ideal to carry both babies without damaging your back!

Getting on and off is the simplest twin carrier, and it has two front pockets for smaller storage (phone, keys, credit card) and a backpack (diaper bag) on the back. The only drawback is that it’s hard to access the backpack on your own.

Bonus: The diaper bag is lined so that any spills can be easily wiped away. There are also two bottle holders that are insulated. Niiiice.

If you’re on the thinner side, each wristband will need to be belt separately to get a snug fit (which isn’t as nice as one band, which will work if you’re a 10 + size). This carrier feels very cool, and it’s very comfortable with my children. A nap sounds good [ yawn] …… so easy.

TwinGo

The TwinGo is our favourite for the heavy-duty user who wants all of the options.

It’s precious, but it has the robustness to wear both twins at the same time comfortably for all sizes – and also offers the option of wearing them separately.

Beginning 4 months on, you should wear tandem twins (head and neck control is key to the role of the back carrier). At 10 lbs+, both babies can be carried separately in the front. But wait, there’s more… There’s a child attachment you can buy separately if you want to wear the babies at 7 lbs. The carrier is being tested to hold a 70 lbs combined weight… WOWZA. Be sure you’re bending your knees!

This carrier also has some difficulty, but the instruction booklet with diagrams and colour coding is very easy to follow. The TwinGo has all the bells and whistles (with the option to buy additional accessories) on each backpack, including a zipper pouch and a hood, which is perfect for wearing while breastfeeding or napping (i.e. their naps). The braces have a lot of padding and the kid is facing a safety belt.

I sound like I can walk up a mountain while wearing a tandem (I need to take the coffee off). In the end: the TwinGo is great!

Bottom line: it’s great and has a soft structured carrier depending on your lifestyle because it helps you to be hands-free. These will last (most likely) into the second year and choose accordingly. Once you can use most soft structured carriers, you have some time, so you can always wait to see if you have better handling of your needs.

If you’re new to carrying a baby, you’ll see how easy it’s to get into; and for twins, let’s just say that holding both babies gets old and heavy while rocking/bouncing. The carriers are perfect to soothe two fussy babies after they get their shots while having dinner, washing, or carrying one or two drinks (one drink for each baby, right?) or good luck!
